The Day After the 3rd Annual Event from the Founders Perspective

What a difference a day makes (as the song title goes)!  Yesterday (October 5th) Plainfield held it's 3rd Annual "Plainfield-Queen City Historic 5K Walk/Run for Life" event.  What an event!  Produced to emphasize and support 5 Key Pillars (Unity & Engagement of Community, Town Image & Legacy, Youth/Senior Citizen advocacy, Health awareness & Improvement, and Community Fund Raising), the event was a success.

You have contributed to the beginning of tradition that, with your help, will continue to help transform a community for it's better self.  We will continue to provide an event that will meet or exceed your expectations.  Send us your input (posting on this site or at plainfieldwalkrun@gmail.com) so we can have a pulse of those who participate for its betterment.

The event was a success given the following: the opening invocation given by local Rose of Sharon Community Church Reverend Lester Martin, the National Anthem sung excellently by local 9th grader, Yasmin Jenkins, the performances by Plainfield High School Marching & Majorettes and by the Central Jersey Mass Choir, the DJ (Universal Sounds), the traditional beautiful Balloon arch spanning across the street at the starting line in front of Historical Plainfield City Hall, the historical USATF certified historic 5K walking/running course, ALL the sponsors (especially JFK Health Systems who was the largest financial supporter), ALL the vendors, work done by Plainfield Grassroots CDC (our non-profit fiduciary arm/affiliate), the involvement of the Historical Society of Plainfield, the overall commitment by the City of Plainfield (including the Administration & City Council but especially Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs, City Works, Media Department & the Police Divsion for their hard work prior to and during the event), the involvement of the Plainfield Board of Education with students from every school participating, the special honorary tribute to Plainfield's own great athlete MILT CAMPBELL and the award ceremony, those on the Plainfield 5K leadership team who worked all year on this project, and finally especially especially the hundreds who showed up to walk/run, compete in, and/or support the event.

Visit this site from time to time as we enhance it with pertinent information going forward.  Within the next couple of days you will be able to get all the timing results here from Saturdays event.  You can also get results immediately from: www.compuscore.com

Again, What a Difference a Day Makes!  THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

Darryl Clark - Event Founder, Chairman
