2017 Plainfield-Queen City Historic 5K Walk/Run for Life set go (October 14)!

You are at the right place at the right time!  The 7th Annual Plainfield-Queen City Historic 5K Walk/Run for Life event is set to go.  This year we will launch on October 14th at 8:00AM.   The first race (the 1 Mile) will take place at 9:00AM sharp.  The second walk/run (the 5K-3.1mile) will begin at 9:30AM sharp.  Day of registration will begin at 7:30AM at Plainfield City Hall (515 Watchung Avenue).  Invocation will begin at 8:00AM.  There will be a zumba warm-up for both events.  There will be vendors, music (DJ), performers, food, and lots of fun!  Vendor set up begins at 7:00AM.
All activities begin and end at Plainfield City Hall pavilion (in front of City Hall).

This is a collaborative effort between the City of Plainfield, the Board of Education, the YMCA, and others.  Many community individual stakeholders and organizations have committed support for this fun festive Fall event!  Many spectators and participants come together each year to celebrate the 5 Pillars for which the event is held: 1) Unity and community engagement, 2) Youth development and senior advocacy, 3) Highlight of beauty and historic legacy of Plainfield and surrounding area, 4) Health and wellness appreciation, 5) Fund raising for non-profit needy causes.

The 5K event and course is United States of America Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned and certified, which draws the more serious runners in the area (including from throughout New Jersey, New York and Connecticut).  Although most walkers/runners are simply enthusiasts who want to have fun, there are those serious runners who compete for prize money.

The 5K certified course meanders through Plainfield City proper passing at least 3 historic sites (including the historic Plainfield High School which is the first public high school in New Jersey, and the Historic Plainfield fire station - the largest of its kind at one time on the eastern seaboard!).

There are awards (medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) in age groups from 19 to 60+ years old.  There are divisions that organizations enter teams in: Religious institutions, civic and community (such as fraternities, Masons, Rotary Club, etc.), and open clubs (for more serious clubs to compete).

Check this site for previous years runners times, a layout of the course, fliers, on-line registration link, and on-line team registration link.

We are seeking your support for sponsorship, donations, volunteering, and vending.  Contact us at: plainfieldwalkrun@gmail.com for more information.

Please come out for this worthy fun event for a good cause, and share with others.

Check back here often for additional information on the event, to post and see other posts.

Sincerely,

Darryl Clark
Event Founder, CEO/Chairman
